perform — play it
Bright, Snap, Motion, Body, Grit and Space are named for what you hear. Each is wired to the knobs of this patch that do that job, measured when it loads, and the strip underneath shows them move. An amber control is one this patch cannot reach: turn it anyway, and it adds what is missing or grows a variant that can.
Offer grows a new version of what you are playing into B. Hold Peek to hear it, turn Blend to move between the two, and Take to make it yours. Asking for another is a pass. Once you have heard an offer, either answer teaches the model.
Wander lets the model play along: a little offers ideas, more drifts the knobs toward your taste, all the way roams. Keep marks where you are and Back returns there; Freeze holds everything still. The XY pad puts two controls under one finger, and a MIDI controller's first eight knobs claim the eight controls.
keys
a w s e d f t g y h u j k … play notes · z/x octave · ⌘Z undo edit · ⇧⌘Z redo
space audition the current patch · [/] step through the bank · 1–5 rate the patch you’re on · m save it · in presets, p plays the row
In EVOLVE: 1/2 audition · ←/→ vote · ⌘Z take back a vote
the rack canvas
home fit the whole patch · . fit what you’re on · ⌘0 actual size · ⌘−/⌘= zoom out/in
ctrl+wheel or pinch zooms at the pointer · wheel or a drag on bare canvas pans · space-drag and middle-drag pan from anywhere on it. map shows where you are; detail drops the knobs when you zoom out.
chain draws the signal path on one baseline, compact packs it tight, and freeform is yours: drag a plate by its faceplate and it snaps to the grid — hold shift to place it freely. snap pins everything where it currently sits, on the grid, which is how you start from an evolved patch. Positions are kept per patch, survive a reload and a generation of ⚡, and travel with an exported patch file.
the keybed
hold latches notes · arp plays held chords in patterns at the BPM, with octave range, gate and swing · uni stacks all 4 voices detuned · gld slides one note into the next when you play a line (chords stay clean) · ● rec bounces your playing to a WAV
⇕ tall gives the keybed the height of a real keyboard, and keys sets how many octaves it shows — fewer octaves, wider keys. Both are worth having if you're playing with fingers.
A MIDI keyboard just works: velocity, pitch bend, sustain pedal.
the rack
Drag knobs — sound changes instantly. Click enum plates to cycle. ⋯ restructures a module; ▢ locks it so evolution can't touch it. Tab into the rack, then arrows to move and ↑/↓ to turn.
the node bank
The rail on the right is the catalogue. Click a module and it's in your hand: every socket it can go into lights up and says what will happen there — green inserts before what's already in the socket, amber replaces it. Click a lit ○ to place it. esc puts it down.
/ searches by sound as well as by name — grit, vowel, sidechain, wander. Hover any module for a sentence on what it does, its ports, and what the model has learned about it. Arrows walk the list; enter takes one; then arrows walk the lit sockets and enter places.
Modulation chains. Drop a shape cv module — quantize, slew, rectify, hold — on a cable that already carries a modulator and it takes that modulator as its input instead of replacing it, so s&h rand → quantize → slew is three clicks. combine cv takes two modulators and gives back one. The socket says which of fill / replace / shape it is about to do.
Drag a wired in jack off its socket to unplug — the chain is held under the rack, even across a reload, and dragging its ● puts it back.
teaching it
Pick between pairs in EVOLVE (or the quick-pick strip in PATCH). Star and cut patches in the bank. Commit edits with “my edit is better”. Watch TASTE learn your styles — name them. The bank's ? walks you through what a generation is.
The rail holds three banks. evolution is the live pool of 40:
each bred patch replaces the one the model thinks you like least.
presets is the hand-made library that came with the instrument.
my patches is what you saved.
★ and save are different questions. Stars tell the
model what you think of a patch; save tells the bank to keep it —
a saved patch is never replaced to make room. Press m on the
row the bank cursor is on to save it.
Everything autosaves.
